1) John Adams was the great-great-grandson of John and Priscilla Alden, Pilgrims who landed at Plymouth Rock in 1620.
2) Adams was a second cousin to Samuel Adams, and a third cousin to his own wife, Abigail Smith Adams (kissin' cousins?).
3) A Harvard-educated lawyer, he early became identified with the patriot cause; a delegate to the First and Second Continental Congresses, he led in the movement for independence.
4) Adams was the first President to live in the White House.
5) When Adams and his family moved to Washington to live in the White House, they got lost in the woods north of the city for several hours.
6) Adams was one of two Presidents to sign the Declaration of Independence.
7) Adams was one of three presidents not to attend the inauguration of his successor.
8) The height of Adam's presidency and popularity came primarily from the victories the navy had over French vessels, and the exposure of the scandal called the XYZ Affair, in which Adams was applauded for revealing the dishonesty and corruption of the French officials, and French insistence on demanding bribes.
9) In 1785, he was named the first U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain.
10) Adams was one of two presidents to live beyond his 90th birthday (Note on this Fact: Gerald Ford Makes The Fourth President To Live Beyond 90).
11) Nickname: Duke of Braintree (where he was born).
12) Last Words: Thomas Jefferson survives (you'll have to research this one).
